Your own tissue or a manufactured shape

Fat grafting adds softness using fat taken from your own body. Implants add structure using a solid insert, usually silicone, placed under the tissue. Both change the contours of the face, but they do it in opposite ways.

Where each one shines

Fat grafting is the better tool for soft, diffuse volume, like a hollowed cheek or a flattened midface. Because it is your own tissue, the result feels natural and moves with your expressions. Implants are better when you want a strong, defined shape, like a more projected chin or a sharper jawline, where a fixed insert gives more predictable projection.

The feel and the risks

Transferred fat is soft and natural to the touch, but some of it can reabsorb and the survival is not fully predictable. An implant keeps its shape exactly, but it is a foreign body, so there is a small long-term risk of infection or shifting. Dr. Franco walks you through both trade-offs before you decide.

Recovery

Both procedures bring about a week or two of swelling. Fat grafting also leaves some soreness where the fat was taken from, usually the abdomen or thighs. Implant recovery is focused on the face only.

How to choose

If you want softness and a natural feel, fat grafting usually fits. If you want a defined projection that will not change, an implant often works better. Many patients combine them, with an implant for the chin and fat for the cheeks. Dr. Franco recommends the combination your face needs.

Cost

Both options are quoted by range in Medellín. Your written quote depends on whether you treat one area or several, and on whether you combine the two. There are no fixed prices because every face is different.
