Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
Most good candidates are between 45 and 70 with skin that still has some elasticity, a jawline that has started to soften, and realistic expectations. The deciding factors are your skin quality, bone structure, and health, not your age. Smoking, uncontrolled blood pressure, and some medications can make you a poorer candidate, and we screen for all of them before surgery.
How long does a facelift last?
A deep plane facelift typically lasts 10 to 15 years, and a SMAS lift about 7 to 10. No facelift stops aging, but the result ages with you and generally still looks better than it would have without surgery.
How long is the recovery?
The first week is the hardest, with swelling and bruising that peak around day three. Stitches come out around day seven. Most people can travel after two weeks and return to normal activity after three to four weeks. The final result appears over three to six months.
Will I look pulled or unnatural?
That depends on the technique. A deep plane lift moves the deeper tissues vertically, which is why it looks like a younger version of you rather than a face that has been stretched. Dr. Franco matches the technique to your face shape for exactly this reason.
How much does a facelift cost in Colombia?
A deep plane facelift in Medellín runs from about $8,000 to $12,000, compared with $25,000 to $50,000 in the United States. Your written quote depends on your anatomy and whether you combine procedures. We do not publish flat prices.
Is it safe to have surgery in Colombia?
Yes, when you choose carefully. Dr. Franco is board-certified and registered with ReTHUS, and his protocol keeps systolic blood pressure under 120 during surgery, which lowered hematoma rates from 3.76 percent to 0.5 percent in a 2024 study. Medellín has modern accredited facilities and a large number of experienced plastic surgeons.
How long do I need to stay in Medellín?
Plan for ten to fourteen days. That covers your surgery, the first follow-up visits, and stitch removal, with a margin before you fly home.
Can I combine a facelift with other procedures?
Yes. Facelifts are commonly combined with a neck lift, eyelid surgery, or a brow lift, and combining them is often more efficient than doing them separately. Dr. Franco will tell you what is safe to combine and what is not.
Will the scars be visible?
The incisions follow the natural contours of the ear and hairline and hide in the creases. Once healed, they are usually hard to see. Most patients can wear their hair back without it being obvious.
When will I see the final result?
You will see most of the change by six weeks, but the final contour settles between three and six months as the deeper tissues relax and the swelling fully resolves.
