Blepharoplasty in Medellín
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in Medellín with Dr. Diego Franco, board-certified plastic surgeon. Upper and lower lid surgery to remove hooded lids and under-eye bags. Cost and recovery.
What blepharoplasty is
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, removes the excess skin and fat that make the eyes look tired or heavy. It treats the upper lids, the lower lids, or both. It does not change the shape of your eyes or lift your brows, and it is often combined with a facelift or brow lift for a complete refresh.
Upper vs lower
An upper blepharoplasty removes the hood of skin that sags onto the lashes and can even limit the field of vision. A lower blepharoplasty smooths the bags and puffiness under the eyes, usually by repositioning the fat rather than removing it. Dr. Franco tells patients which one they actually need, and many need only the upper lids.
Who it's for
Good candidates have drooping upper lids, under-eye bags, or a tired look that is structural rather than just a matter of skin quality. If the heaviness is in the brows rather than the lids, a brow lift is the right procedure instead. Blepharoplasty works for both men and women, often starting in the forties.
How it's performed
Upper lid surgery takes about an hour and is done under local anesthesia with light sedation. The incision hides in the natural crease of the eyelid. Lower lid surgery can be done through the inside of the lid, which leaves no visible scar, or through a fine line just below the lashes. Stitches come out within a week.
Recovery
Expect swelling and some bruising around the eyes for one to two weeks. You should sleep with your head elevated and avoid straining, bending, or heavy lifting for the first week. Most people can return to work in about a week and fly home after seven to ten days. The final result settles over a few months.
Cost
An upper blepharoplasty in Medellín runs from about $1,200 to $2,000, a fraction of the $4,000 to $6,000 the same procedure typically costs in the United States. Upper and lower lids together cost more. Your written quote covers the surgeon's fee, anesthesia, the facility, and follow-up visits.
